Assessing Career Prospects and Earnings for Children and Young Adults

KCA profile career earnings in children’s cases, pioneering an approach which the Courts have found of assistance since 1990.

Drawing on numerous studies about the relationship between parents and children, KCA’s approach to career modelling children’s cases looks at the parents’ qualifications and employment, creating a career forecast by providing different stages throughout a career.

Using research and drawing on studies showing the links between parents and children in terms of qualifications and employment allows for a more specific and highly valuable approach as compared to just using earnings available for All Males or All Females. In some cases, a sibling will be used as a comparator to suggest a possible “but for” career trajectory for the child.

KCA has standard questionnaires in child cases, which can be sent to Claimants, differing dependant on the age of the child and the case. If a child is older, school qualifications and grades can be used to help profile a career.

“Dr Carter […], Thank you for your invaluable time and expertise in today’s proof. Your answers and thorough preparation significantly contributed to the proceedings. I appreciate the effort you put into preparing for the case. The work you completed was instrumental in proceedings.”

In providing a guide to the Court, KCA do not just provide an “average” indication for earnings over a whole working life, rather providing earnings at “key stages” of a career to provide a more accurate guide as to “but for” earnings.
